Alistair Blu

Montreal, QC
Artist profile

Evan Crofton, better known by his stage name Alistair Blu, is a versatile producer, vocalist, and keyboardist based in Montréal, Canada. Born on the west coast of Canada, Crofton - a trained jazz pianist - was heavily influenced by a dynamic range of genres, from classic soul and jazz, to West Coast hip hop, funk and late-60’s psychedelic rock.
Best known as the co-lead vocalist and keyboardist for the Canadian funk-soul group Busty and the Bass, he has written tracks alongside heavy hitting acts like George Clinton (Parliament-Funkadelic), R&B titan Macy Gray, Illa J, and Amber Navran of the LA-based neo-soul trio Moonchild. His fusion of jazz-inspired soul and funk-laden hip hop is put on full display during the band’s powerful live performances which have drawn sold-out crowds to theatres across North America and Europe.
Crofton’s sound echoes nostalgia and timelessness. As Alistair Blu, he dives deep into the fusion of his influences, combining synthesizers and piano riffs with melodic vocal hooks and tight drum grooves. His tracks offer up reminders of Outkast, The Beatles, or Al Green, while staying true to his unique and personal style. Since the release of Busty and the Bass’ sophomore album Eddie, Crofton continues to showcase his efforts in pushing the boundaries of genre and progressing the fields of modern funk and indie soul.
