Welcome to Gigpit!

This website seeks to enhance and improve local music scenes across Canada. We want more fans to feel like they are a part of an exciting grassroots scene, artists to gain access to fans outside their social circle, and venues/promoters to find exciting artists making music in the community.

GIGPIT EVENTS Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website Gigpit.ca (the “Website”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information in accordance with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Canada’s PIPEDA, and applicable regulations such as CASL.

1.1 Email Subscriptions

When you submit your email address via our “Sign Up for Updates” box, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Date and time of subscription
  • IP address (for security, fraud prevention, analytics, and location-based services)

1.2 Google Account Integration

If you choose to sign in using Google, we collect the standard profile information you authorize, which may include:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Profile picture URL
  • Locale

We do not receive or store your Google password.

1.3 Automatically Collected Data

  • Usage data such as pages viewed, features used, and browser type, for analytics and service improvement.
  • Device information, including device type and operating system.

1.4 IP-Based Location Information

We use IP addresses to infer your approximate location (such as city or region) in order to display and recommend live music events that are relevant to your area.

This location information is derived automatically from your IP address and does not involve precise GPS tracking or continuous location monitoring.

1.5 Ticket Purchases

When you purchase tickets through the Website, we collect information necessary to process the transaction and administer the event, which may include your name, email address, and transaction details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide and operate the Website and Services
  • Authenticate logins and manage user accounts
  • Display city- or region-specific events based on approximate location derived from IP addresses
  • Send updates and marketing communications only where you have provided express consent
  • Process ticket purchases and facilitate event access
  • Maintain platform security and prevent fraud
  • Analyze usage to improve performance and user experience

3. Legal Basis for Processing

Under PIPA and PIPEDA, we collect, use, and disclose personal information based on:

  • Reasonable purposes related to service delivery and personalization

We may disclose personal information to:

5. Event Organizers & Guest List Privacy

Event organizers receive limited purchaser information strictly for event-related purposes. They act as independent data controllers and are responsible for complying with applicable privacy and anti-spam laws.

Gigpit is not responsible for how event organizers use purchaser information after it has been shared in accordance with the Services.

6. Consent & Electronic Communications (CASL)

  • Marketing emails are sent only with express consent
  • Using Google Sign-In does not by itself constitute consent to receive marketing communications
  • Consent may be withdrawn at any time via unsubscribe links
  • We maintain consent records as required by law

7. Data Retention

Personal information is retained only as long as necessary for identified purposes, unless longer retention is required by law.

8. Security & Third-Party Services

We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information. The Website relies on third-party providers, and uninterrupted availability or absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
