About the show

Toronto-based folk trio, Sleeping Bees, brings their ethereal harmonies to Victoria this summer. With support from local musician Sara Rose.

Sleeping Bees is a Toronto-based contemporary folk trio that conjures hope and invites healing through their refreshing three-part harmonies and evocative songwriting. Weaving together the voices of Kathryn Merriam, Madison Ryley, and Reid Zoé, the group crafts songs that feel both ancient and shimmering with new life. Their music welcomes listeners into a world where haunting vocals and intricate arrangements linger in the mind, long after the final note. Sleeping Bees formed in 2019 through a mutual love of connecting through voice, and have been gently tending this creative project ever since. Each member brings a unique element to the group; Kathryn has an extensive background in jazz studies, Madison is an opera-trained yoga teacher, and Reid has worked in the nature connection space for the better part of a decade. Together, these threads come together to form the lush tapestry of their songs and performance.

Sara Rose Hébert (they/them) opens hearts and soothes souls with musings of love, compassion, and spirituality. Their unique songwriting offers a blend of indie and anti-folk sounds laden with soulful vocals and hypnotic guitar parts. With intricate melodies and heartfelt lyrics, fans describe Sara Rose's performance as a "hug in music form." The clarity of their voice and their ineffable stage presence will take you on an unforgettable journey.Timmins, Ontario born-and-raised, this queer, neurodivergent Franco-Ontarian has released three albums in English since 2010. They are now recording a francophone album, in their  home on Lekwungen territory (colonially known as Victoria, BC), set to be released in late 2027.
