Introducing Sonic Alley

Sonic Alley is a geographically scattered band that delivers such tight performances you would expect them to live under the same roof. With members based across Western Canada and roots stretching through Caribbean, Latin, and Canadian musical traditions, the group functions on respect, professionalism, and tireless work ethic.

The Sound

The band’s sound pulls from reggae, gospel, soul, and modern rock without settling comfortably into any one lane. That elasticity isn’t a branding exercise so much as a byproduct of the players involved. Each member brings a long résumé of professional work—from church stages to touring circuits—and the music reflects that experience. Parts are chosen deliberately. Space is respected. Nothing is rushed.

This dynamic is especially clear in the session. Frontman Caleb Hart delivers a commanding vocal performance despite being seriously ill on the day of recording, singing with control and intensity while the band builds a foundation that knows exactly when to support and when to disappear. The room itself wasn’t doing them any favors—the session took place in studio conditions hovering around 35°C. You can see the effort. You can hear the discipline.

The session arrives at a moment of forward motion for Sonic Alley. “Praises,” the second song from the performance, is releasing February 20, with a full-length album following in May. The music moves easily between styles and energies, carried by a group that sounds fully at ease exploring wherever a song wants to go.

Below is the raw interview with Sonic Alley, where the band dives deeper into their story, process, and the vision behind the music.

The Interview

The members of Sonic Alley sat down with Koby Andrews to discuss their journey, process, and the vision behind the music. Caleb had to bow out - believe it or not he sang that entire set with Bronchitis.

A Few Excerpts:

You’ve got guitars from Canada, bass from Venezuela, Caribbean roots, and members spread across the country. What does that diversity bring to the band?

JD: "It brings authenticity. We all come from different cultures, but our values align. We’re not trying to fit into one genre—we’re making music that feels real to us. That mix of backgrounds creates a sound and energy you don’t often see, especially in Victoria."

What can listeners expect next from Sonic Alley?

Pedro: "The plan is one more single (Presave "Praises") followed by a full album. We’ve been working behind the scenes for a long time, so there’s a lot of music ready to go—we’re just being intentional about how we release it."

Songs like Praises have a different energy than your higher-energy tracks. Is that range something you’re thinking about as you build an album?

Pedro: "Absolutely. From the beginning, we didn’t want to be boxed into a genre. We all love different kinds of music, and our backgrounds naturally bring variety. The album will reflect that—different moods, different feels, but all authentic."

Each of you brings a lot of experience. Where does that come from?

JD: "I was raised in church, so gospel heavily influences my playing. I also do weddings and corporate gigs—everything from Michael Jackson to Beyoncé. Sonic Alley is my priority, though. "

Nathan: "Same here. Church is my foundation musically. That experience opened doors to bigger gigs in Alberta and shaped how I listen and play."

Pedro: "I grew up in Venezuela, surrounded by Caribbean and Latin music. Reggae is my backbone in this band, but live we blend in soca, calypso, and Latin rhythms. That mix will only grow."

Rhett: "I’ve played everything—from punk and heavy music to reggae, ska, Latin, and capoeira groups. Guitar is actually my newest instrument. Sonic Alley is where all those experiences come together."
